Overview
Engineering Education Australia’s (EEA) Professional Year in Engineering was developed to equip international engineering graduates from Australian universities with the skills and experience they need to start a successful career.
The program consists of training and an engineering internship placement to provide a pathway from study to employment in Australia.
We are the only provider approved by Engineering Education Australia to deliver the Professional Year in Engineering across all Australian states and territories.


Program inclusions
The Professional Year in Engineering includes:
- 32 weeks of coursework covering Australian work practice, WHS, business communications, job search skills and simulated workplace training.Â
- 12-week full-time internship
- Free online PTE-A or IELTS English test preparation training
- Free professional development workshops and networking events
- The option to transfer between eight campuses*
- Ongoing career counselling; before and during the program and after graduation
Students completing a Professional Year in Engineering can take their capabilities to the next level and build their Australian network with the largest professional engineering body in Australia.
- Complimentary Engineers Australia Membership, activated a few months after enrolling in the Professional Year.
- Access to fantastic resources through the EA OnDemand professional development platform.  The site includes high quality content on topics ranging from technical skills, career development and becoming a chartered engineer. It also includes the Young Engineers Australia (YEA) CPD Series that’s relevant to graduates. Webinars and content are available to watch on-demand, at your own convenience.
- Access to the Starting in the Australian Engineering Workplace EEA Online short course to help you master the core skills required to contribute to a team and transition from student to professional working engineer.

We ensure that each host company understands how best to assist you to achieve your professional development goals and we are proud to have placed 100% of our engineering candidates into a professional internship related to engineering.

Course outcomes

Bring your own device
With an increased use of educational tools throughout the ACAP Professional Year coursework, enrolled participants will need to bring their own device (BYOD e.g. laptops, tablets) during training sessions in order to fulfill work-simulated activities.
Minimum requirement:

- RAM: Minimum 4 GB, recommended 8GB
- Hard Drive: 128GB SSD (256GB SSD recommended if not using Cloud storage)

Other important Program information
Grading and assessments
Participants are graded on classroom attendance and participation, assessment tasks and completion of the 12-week internship placement in engineering.
To receive a Professional Year certification participants must have a 100% attendance record, complete the required assessment tasks and a 12 week internship placement.
Quality and compliance

We are approved by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) and the Professional Association (EEA) to offer the Professional Year Program in engineering in all eight capital cities of Australia.
- 100% attendance is required by DHA and enforced by ACAP Professional Year
- Our training and assessment practices are fully compliant under ASQA Standards for Registered Training Organisations
- Navitas Professional Training Pty Ltd, (trading as ACAP Professional Year), is a registered training organisation RTO: 21663
- All our trainers hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or higher, and a minimum Certificate IV in a relevant vocational qualification
- Our trainers are experienced working in the Australian workplace and provide excellence in teaching adults utilising best practice adult learning techniques
- Account Managers interview all applicants to assess suitability for the program and internship placements
- Internship Placement Consultants perform a minimum of one workplace progress assessment during each internship
- All our graduates are surveyed for student satisfaction on completion of the Professional Year Program
Entry requirements
To qualify for the Professional Year in Engineering, you must:
- have completed an undergraduate or postgraduate award for Engineering in Australia, completed within 4 years of the date of application, with a minimum of two years (94 weeks) study duration.
Note: The degree must qualify as an Engineering course (Broad and Narrow Fields) under the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). - hold or applied for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485, either stream) with at least 12 months’ validity or hold an eligible Secondary Visa with work and study rights with at least 12 months’ validity
Note: Offshore university graduates may be eligible to complete the Professional Year in Engineering on a 476 visa. - have at least a IELTS score of 6.0 with nothing below 5, in all 4 competencies or equivalent PTE-A and TOEFL – iBT scores
- provide a successful Migration Skills Assessment from Engineers Australia.
Offshore university graduates may be eligible to complete the Professional Year in Engineering on a 476 visa.
